Hello everyone,  I’m Brandon, and welcome to my blog “Divorced Dad Advise”.  This is my introduction to why I finally started my blog.

know what you’re thinking!  Are you even a divorced dad? Yes, I am. I’m a divorced dad and I will be talking about being one.

I chose the word Advise because as I mentioned I am a divorced dad so this will be coming from a dad’s perspective. The word, in this case, has a double meaning.

It’s advice but with an s and yes be please be advised and be aware of any bad dad jokes.

Anyone that has the dad that would tell you to pull his finger and only to have some natural gas follow knows what I’m talking about.  Don’t worry there won’t be any of that here.

What about watching any of the videos on YouTube of dad’s pulling pranks on their kids with water bottles?

My favorites are the ones when they get their kids to look directly into the bottle and squeeze water into their faces.

Can you think of your favorite sitcom from now or growing up?
Think about that dad giving advice! Think Al Bundy, Uncle Phil aka Phillip Banks, Arthur Spooner, or Fred Sanford. I might have dated myself with that last reference a little.  Sanford and Son one of my favorite shows of all time.

WHAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN MY BLOG TOPIC?

Let me start by saying that, I’m excited about my blog. You will find that the topics are going to be about things that I went through, things I’m going through, and how I’m dealing/dealt with them.

In most cases these will be things as a divorced parent you either went through, currently going through or are getting ready to go through and are searching for answers.

Unfortunately, in America, we all know that we have one of the highest divorce rates. In fact, almost 50% of all marriages in the US will end in divorce or separation.

When I was going through my divorce at times I felt isolated. Even though I could talk to my parents they couldn’t relate. After all, they have been married for 47 years.

My best friends did come from divorced or separated households but they are married and have been together with their wives 15 years or more including dating.

It was definitely a rough time.

Who would have thought the one from the household with parents that have been together for so long would be the one to get divorced?  Definitely NOT ME!

You see the funny thing is that divorce doesn’t matter about:

  • your parent’s marital status is/was.

  • your household makeup was

  • how much money you make.

  • your ethnicity

  • if you are republican or democrat

  • If you say soda or pop.

It can rear its ugly head whenever and however it wants.

Because of how isolated I felt, I decided to set up this blog so that I can speak about the things I went through in hopes of being a voice for someone out there that may feel isolated too.

Divorce is tough enough as it is.  Especially if you feel like you are going through it alone, even if you have a family it can still feel that way.

I want anyone going through the pain, frustration, confusion, and anxiety-like I did to understand that you are not alone.

Not to mention at the time becoming a single dad which was a little scary.  That added even more stress to the situation.

Anyway, I’ve always felt a need to help out when or where I can.

What better way to do that by talking about a subject that I am familiar with and about a topic that will never go away?

To say I’m nervous about this whole thing would be an understatement but I’m ready.  I may also be talking about ways to save money like dropping cable and if it really is cheaper.  I mean why not?  It’s a popular topic! Even my parents have asked me about it and they are in their 60s.

A lot of people have questions about it.  Besides, I worked in the cable industry so I know a few things trust me.
